The National Accreditation Committee (KAN), a Non-Structural Institution (Lembaga Non Struktural/LNS) under the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) and accountable to the President of the Republic of Indonesia through the Head of BSN as mandated by Law No. 20 of 2014 on Standardization and Conformity Assessment, is the sole national accreditation body of Indonesia.
Through its mandate, KAN provides accreditation to laboratories, certification bodies, inspection bodies, and other conformity assessment institutions, in line with international standards and requirements. This ensures technical competence, impartiality, and compliance with applicable regulations, while supporting consumer protection, fair trade, and global competitiveness.
KAN is a full member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), and the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC), and is a signatory to the IAF MLA, ILAC MRA, and APAC MRA. These multilateral arrangements facilitate global recognition and acceptance of accredited conformity assessment results from Indonesia.
As the national standardization body, BSN plays a central role in formulating and implementing Indonesian National Standards (SNI) and in strengthening the national quality infrastructure. Together, BSN and KAN ensure that Indonesia's standardization and accreditation system aligns with international best practices and contributes to sustainable development and global trust.
